End Date: May 18, 2025 - Erie Canal 5K Race Day!
INFORMATIONAL SESSION: February 16, 9:00am @ The Sneaker Store
Our 5K training program is designed for people who have never run before, runners coming back from injury, or casual runners that want to learn how to run more efficiently. We build from a run/walk and help you tackle a 5K.
When you sign up for this 12-week program, you’re making an investment in yourself, and you’ll benefit from…
12-week written training plan, designed by our coaches to take you from walking and run/walking intervals through the finish line of your first 5K. The plan is designed to have you run/walking five days a week, and one of those days is our group run (Sundays) that is just for Pursuit, with an additional opportunity for you to join our open Wednesday evening run group at The Sneaker Store. Accountability is everything (and we think it makes it more fun too!) so we encourage you to join us whenever you can.
Coaching by our RRCA certified coaching staff.
Weekly Sunday morning group run (run/walk) led by our coaching staff and volunteers. We meet at The Sneaker Store at 9:00, start with some stretching, run together, then enjoy some complimentary snacks and coffee.
Brief weekly sessions to follow our group runs (during snacks & coffee) that cover topics from proper footwear and attire, to nutrition, injury prevention, stretch and strengthening guidance, and more! These sessions are included and designed to complement your running to keep you comfortable, safe, and smart on the roads.
Discounted registration for the St. Patrick’s Day Mad Mile (1 mile race) and Erie Canal 5K. Racing these is not mandatory, but we certainly encourage it. The Erie Canal 5K is our culminating event and your time to shine - hitting that 5K finish line and feeling strong.
Training shirt featuring the Pursuit logo.
A private Facebook group to share successes, ask questions, support and learn from each other. Your coaches will be active on this forum as well.
10% Run Club discount at The Sneaker Store for all footwear, apparel, accessories and nutrition! (Excludes Tech).

It all started when…
…Josh ran his first marathon in 2016.
Josh, co-owner of the Sneaker Store has been running since 1998; his first Boilermaker 15k. Since then, he’s been running various distances both competitively and recreationally himself. When he started training for his first marathon, he realized that the commercial programs that were available just didn’t work for him. Cookie-cutter programs just didn’t cut it due to scheduling conflicts and their general lack of understanding of the runner as an individual. That’s when the light bulb went off.
“If I’m having this need, likely our customers are too!”
While Josh had coached at the scholastic level, he realized that the adult, individual runner needs more than a “one size fits all” training program, and he began programming to suit those needs.
Since Sneaker Store Run Coaching began, we’ve had athletes qualify for the Boston Marathon, PR at various distances, meet health and fitness goals, and, as with all coaching, we’ve had athletes who have struggled. We continue to work with these runners, going back to the drawing board and figuring out what works for them.
When you run with us, your success is our success. You won’t be given a “cookie cutter” program. Instead, we will work with you, your schedule, your goals, and your backslides. You don’t have to be an elite runner, either! We work with the 5-minute and the 15-minute mile runners. No matter what, you’ll start with a free consultation with a run coach to make sure you’re getting what’s right for you and your plan will be created just for you, and at a great value!
Our Sneaker Store Run Coaching Team is made up of highly qualified, passionate, compassionate, talented, committed coaches. All of our coaches are RRCA or USATF Level 1 certified at minimum. We work together to create programs designed with you in mind. We’re always excited to welcome new runners to our crew!
